Creating Endurance Challenge:Mordred's Isle is a long and painstaking process.
- First, the show is filmed live on location on the horrific Mordred's Isle by a cast and crew from around the multiverse.
- Second, the live footage is then edited, color-balanced, and assembled into a finished video.
- The episode is reviewed by the creatives at Hatchling Studios, and then destroyed.
- Finally, Hatchling Studios re-creates the entire episode as an animation, keeping EC:MI's gratuitous violence and death kid friendly. It's fun for the whole family.
When tasked with finding an animation company to re-create each episode, EC:MI's sorcerer-producers chose Hatchling Studios, an award-winning animation and interactive studio located just north of Boston. With a dozen awards for its shorts at over 70 festivals world-wide (including the animated mockumentary The Toll - www.thetollmovie.com), Hatchling was a natural candidate for the post-post-production. Hatchling's impressive (and also award-winning) interactive capabilities made a great website and fun games possible. And Hatchling's employees posses an off-the-wall, creative view of reality that is normally reserved for mental patients. It's true that you don't have to be crazy to work on EC:MI, but it certainly helps.
What really sealed the deal for Hatchling Studios, however, was the people who work there have no life: the only thing they're more passionate about than oddball fantasy mayhem is their artwork and creativity. It's that magical blend of fanatical dedication, unhinged creativity, and a willingness to subjugate one's own needs and desires for the sake of the project that marks a true artist. Or at least the kind of artist that you want working for you.
